Time spent in nature can be transformative. Yet, by and large, people of color are underrepresented in outdoor activities. Camping in Color aims to bridge this divide by providing Black youth and their families with opportunities to connect with nature, build community, and foster a sense of belonging. Your support is crucial in helping us continue this mission and expand our reach.

Event Logistics: Cover camping, transportation, and meal expenses. Gear & Supplies: Provide essential camping gear for participants. Education: Fund workshops, guided activities, and learning materials. Operational Support: Ensure fair compensation for our Black-led team and camp leaders.

A unique program designed to introduce children and youth from diverse ethnic backgrounds to the joys of tent camping, especially those with little to no prior experience. By creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, the program fosters a sense of belonging, appreciation, and engagement in the outdoors. Participants have the opportunity to develop new skills, form lasting memories, and build meaningful connections with nature, their peers, and their communities.

We are thrilled to share the success of our inaugural Camping in Color overnight program! This experience not only introduced participants to the basics of camping but also inspired a deep appreciation for the natural world. By breaking down barriers to outdoor recreation, the program empowers children and youth to see themselves as active participants in the outdoor community while cultivating a lifelong love for nature.

The primary goal of Camping in Color (CiC) is to increase participation in outdoor recreation and education among youth from historically underserved communities, while providing an opportunity for positive youth development in a culturally inclusive and supportive environment.
